Kubernetes Spot cost estimator
Find out what Spot really saves on your compute bill, after On-Demand fallback and what Savings Plans and Reserved Instances already save. Takes a minute.
Your setup
Estimated Spot savings
$3,096per month
$37,152 per year · 15% reduction in your compute bill
Realistic range: $1,858 – $3,560 per month
Spend that moves to Spot: $6,000 per month
From gross discount to net savings
- Gross Spot discount$3,900
- Lost to On-Demand fallback-$468
- Lost to existing commitments-$336
- Net savings$3,096
Estimate based on market averages, not a quote. Your actual number depends on your workloads, regions and instance types, which is what a technical assessment measures.

How this estimate is calculated
It is neither a measurement of your environment nor audited market data: it is a simple model with conservative assumptions that I use as a starting point in assessments.
- 1.Spend that moves to Spot. The interruption-tolerant share minus what already runs on Spot. Anything that cannot tolerate interruption stays out of the math.
- 2.Gross discount. Applies a 65% discount to On-Demand on the spend that moves to Spot. AWS advertises discounts of up to 90%, but they vary by instance type, region and time.
- 3.On-Demand fallback. When Spot runs out of capacity, part of the demand lands on On-Demand and gets no discount. I assume 25%, 12% or 5% of it, depending on whether instance diversification is low, medium or high.
- 4.Existing commitments. Savings Plans and Reserved Instances already save about 28% over On-Demand. Moving that share to Spot only earns the difference, and can leave a commitment unused.
Realistic range
The low end is 60% of the estimate and the high end is 115%, never above the gross discount. Moving workloads to Spot takes engineering effort, and not every workload is eligible.
What the estimator does not consider
Storage, network and managed-service costs, Spot price drift over time, replica buffer to absorb interruptions, migration cost and the impact of interruptions on your SLAs. That is why the result is an order of magnitude, and a technical assessment measures the real number.
